Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something.

When you have that dream, protect it with all youve got.

When you have that dream, protect it with all you've got.

Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they’re gonna tell you that you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.

- The Pursuit of Happyness

This video struck a deep chord within me – it reminded me of all the times I’ve let myself down over the years and felt that it’s impossible to get ahead again; it reminded me of the times that I’ve tried so hard but still fell flat when the judgment was read; it reminded me of the times when I let down the people that mean the world to me.

But everytime it seems like the world’s just out to get you, and I can’t get anything right, that little voice inside me whispers, just give it one more try.

I’m far from perfect, but I’m going to keep trying till I get there, I promise you that.

    KEVIN,

    SPOT ON.

Indeed, nothing is impossible. It was never meant to be impossible. Just that along our way, we see many people surrendering their dreams because of nay-sayers and others who claim it cannot be done.

With faith, we can do anything we put our mind to. In fact, we can do ALL things through the Big Guy in Heaven who strengthens us. Forget the naysayers and Press On!

PS: I’m not perfect either (shouldn’t be either cos I believe God isn;t done with me yet)! I get carried away too easily. Or let me put it this way, my level of faith isn’t really sky-high. To be honest, it is not, so I gotta remind myself every now and then to have faith in myself. I’m often hit with that inferiority complex which just brings my confidence level down the proverbial drain.. Sometimes, things are easier said than done.! Darn, there I go again…

Anyways, just a reminder, Have Faith in yourself.

Yup, we’re all imperfect, but I always believe that the important thing to do is to just do our best to recognize our shortcomings, identify them, and slowly iron them out of our lives through persistent effort.

That’s why this blog exists too, to remind myself and the people I care about to have faith and keep on moving forward, one small baby step at a time. ;)

maybe life is more than just pursuing materials and stuff that we cannot bring with us when we die. maybe not being a millionaire by the age of 26 is really fine too. i had such an outlook in life before, dreams of company start-up, personal glory and all. but nah, life is more than such meaningless things, although by no means are we to do nothing at all. but i would suggest considering what Ecclesiastes 5:10 says in the bible: “Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.” Also consider the words of Jesus: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15)

The only reason I am saying this to you is so that you may not regret it 20 years down the road when you are wondering why you are still unfulfilled after having pursued all this. It’s because I don’t want to see a good friend trod down this well-worn path of the pursuit of wealth and end up in despair.

Take care dude. I’m no longer on facebook. drop me emails once in a while :)

    Ern Sheong,

True, pursuing wealth for wealth’s sake is pointless indeed. My pursuit of becoming a millionaire by age 26 is not just for the money alone – it’s also a test of my will and I feel a worthy goal to challenge myself.

There’s also a lot that I want to do with that money, and freedom to live life exactly the way I see fit is one of it.

Take care brother, and know that your opinions are always welcome on this site. :)

One of my favourite film of all time.

It is true that we need to persevere to our dreams and goals. I do think the biggest foe to doom the dreams and goals are none other than ourselves.

Definitely. Just to share with you guys what one venture capitalist, Paul Graham, thinks about determination:

what are you trying to pursue, kevin? and why?

some good questions to ask myself too

  13. #13 by Kevin on September 8, 2009 - 12:31 am

Ultimately, I believe that it’s all about personal growth and becoming a better person. Setting my monetary goals is just one way of motivating myself to maximize my potential and the power of now.

I don’t want to depend on my parents for money and want to stand on my own two feet and have the freedom to live the life of my dreams and that is why that particular goal is important to me.

I do understand that money is not everything but I strongly believe that at this moment in time, it really is one part of my life that seriously requires improving. Rest assured that I also do have other non-monetary goals that I want to achieve too. :)
